My New Secret Weapon

In August, 2017, I was invited to teach my 4-Part Course in Conscious Health Meditation at a conference for women physicians in Colorado. The chance to teach my course to physicians in the conference setting was a huge professional milestone for me. Little did I know how important that weekend in Colorado would be for me personally.

Tapping uses acupressure points similar to those in acupuncture.

The content for the rest of the conference was delivered by a psychiatrist and a psychologist, both trauma experts. They talked about non-medical ways to treat trauma, including the Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping). I was captivated by these new techniques and the science behind them, which meshed with what I teach in my meditation course.

About 4 months later, I met a woman who is a tapping expert and decided to give it a try. I was amazed at the results! She helped me process an acutely traumatic event which, at the time, had me reeling. As I continued to work with her, I’ve been able to use tapping to clear out old relationship wounds and manifest exciting success with my personal and professional life.

Why does a meditation teacher need help processing traumas and old baggage? Aren’t meditation teachers supposed to have it all figured out? Heck no! There is nothing in this world that fixes everything. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. It took me a while to realize that truth, but I stand by it.

Tapping is the yang to my meditation yin.

We all need more than 1 modality to continue to grow and evolve. For me, tapping gets at the remnants of those nagging, repetitive problems that we’ve all carried with us for decades. Consistently attracting unhealthy relationships into my life. Self-doubt. Anxiety and other emotions that I’d never fully processed. It’s the yang to my meditation yin.

How does it work? Using acupressure points similar to those in acupuncture (but without any needles), it separates a previously-triggering stimulus from the fight-or-flight stress response in our brain, so that stimulus no longer produces an emotional response. It’s amazing. And what I love about it is that it’s easy to do, safe (both physically and emotionally), and once you know how to do it, you can easily do it on your own at home! It helps to process emotions, improve acute and chronic pain, wipe out limiting beliefs, conquer phobias, and manifest powerful changes in your life.

Meditation has made most things in my life much, if not completely, better. What it also does is till the soil in our brain, so that anything else we try (therapy, tapping, meds, creating new habits) will take root and work even better.
