What Are The Benefits of Meditation

I teach meditation to both healthcare professionals and regular people just like you. The type of meditation that I teach has so. many. benefits.

Personally, I’ve experienced improved depression and anxiety, improved irritable bowel syndrome, a 99% decrease in road rage, improved interpersonal relationships, increased compassion and empathy, improved intuition and creativity, more efficiency, and a wildly improved overall sense of well-being. I’m no longer addicted to celebrity gossip magazines (bye bye US Weekly!), and there’s way less drama in my life. Life’s just more fun as a meditator. I feel like I’m moving with the flow of nature, rather than against it.

Oh- and did I mention that I’ve always been super Type-A and skeptical, and I’ve got a monkey mind? And I was still able to experience profound benefits from meditation. Mind=blown.

This technique activates your parasympathetic nervous system, helping to shift your nervous system from near-constant ‘fight or flight’ mode (i.e. the sympathetic nervous system) to a more restorative space of healing, rest, and calm.

Here are some other benefits of this type of meditation:

Reduced:
Stress, depression and anxiety
Insomnia
Pain
Substance abuse and other addictive behaviors
Cardiovascular disease such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and cerebrovascular disease (strokes)
Risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as obesity, high cholesterol, and free radical formation
Healthcare costs and utilization
’Fight or Flight’ stress and reactivity from the sympathetic nervous system

Improved:
Immune system, longevity and energy
Academics, school behavior, special and remedial education
Integration of personality, sense of wellbeing and happiness
Concentration, willpower and memory
Accuracy and speed of decision making
Intelligence, creativity and learning ability
Ability to stay calm under pressure
Relationships through improved self-awareness and awareness of others
Expanded consciousness from which to view the world
Activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (i.e. your body’s innate ‘rest and digest’ healing mode)
