When there are no words, try this...

How are you?

No seriously, how are you?

Yesterday's guilty verdict about Derek Chauvin's murder of George Floyd was... the best of all outcomes in that moment. It was momentous. But it still wasn't happy news for a lot of folks. George Floyd is still dead. Ma'Khia Bryant was killed by a police officer just 1 hour before the verdict was even announced. So much has happened, and there's still so much work to be done.

No matter what your race, culture, ethnicity, or even your profession, you may have some strong feelings about yesterday's verdict. Or maybe you are numb.

I have something I need you to know:

All of these feelings are valid.

All of them. Even the numbness, which is likely your body's way of protecting you from getting re-traumatized.

And all of these feelings and traumas are stored and felt in our bodies. And each individual's body is processing this in a different way.

Me as a white woman, vs someone who is Black, vs someone who might have strong connections to police and know in their deepest body and soul that there is a desperate need for real change in police training and culture.

A lot of times, when I'm facilitating a tapping session, I speak for the person or people I'm tapping with, based on information I know about them.

I can't do that right now.

I can't presume to know what's happening in anyone's lived experience of systemic racism, or their lived reaction to the verdict, and I won't try.

But that doesn't mean tapping can't help people to heal in this moment.

I'd like to share with you a tapping video about how to process whatever it is that you are feeling in your body, without having to dive into the specifics of the emotions of what you are feeling.

Maybe those emotions are too intense, or they don't feel safe to dive into, so getting into the body can feel more safe and accessible.

Please check it out below:

(Trigger warning: if 'getting into your body' is not a safe space for you, now or ever, you may want to sit this one out, because we'll really be focusing on the ways your emotions are physically manifesting in your body.)

With the guilty verdict of Derek Chauvin, lots of people are feeling lots of different reactions. Relief, overwhelm, vindication, hope, and happiness, or sad...

If you found this video helpful, I'd love to hear from you, and please feel free to share with anyone you think might benefit from it.
